Is a three-and-a-half-hour Happy Hour, seven days a week, enough to get you over to Kabuki in Wellington (also on Clematis in West Palm, and on PGA Blvd.)? The extra-fresh, simply prepared dishes will make you get there early and stay late. Although we’d go to this newly-discovered spot anytime, it’s Happy Hour that will make you feel like you found the prize in the Cracker Jack box.

Our friends were keeping Kabuki a secret. Who knew that between 3 and 6:30 daily, we could snag a beer, house wine, sake, or a specialty cocktail for $3-$7? Or sushi or a hot appetizer for $4-$7? For two, with tax and tip, we spent a little over $40 on four plates and two cocktails.

Try a Japanese Sapporo (premium, not light), a cold sake, or a “lycheetini” with your choice of 19 sushi rolls or sashimi, $5 or $6 each, such as salmon avocado roll, shrimp tempura roll, Japanese bagel roll (salmon, cream cheese, scallion and cucumber), or a California roll. If you’re in a low-carb mood, try the seaweed salad with wahoo and white tuna sashimi. The hot appetizers (labeled “tapas,” but not) include edamame with sea salt or spices; Thai spring rolls; fried or steamed Pork Gyoza dumplings; vegetable tempura; Crispy Tofu (delicious!); and, if you’re a fan, flash-fried calamari, unceremoniously called Squid Ring. Finish big and share a dessert — Cheesecake Tempura sundae, Thai Donuts with dipping sauces, or Banana Tempura with honey and vanilla ice cream!
