At the “new” Poppies, three-course dinner specials run $30-40. Start with matzoh ball, mushroom barley or soup of the day or a large, crispy garden salad. Entrees vary, but as an example, the four juicy, char-broiled Australian Lamb Chop dinner special was $5 less than the regular a la carte price. Generous filleted whole Branzino dinner special was served with lemon caper sauce, fresh grilled asparagus and excellent Greek-style lemon potatoes.

A la carte Steaks & Chops include grilled London Broil in mushroom-wine sauce, charbroiled Chopped Steak with sautéed onions and mushrooms, and Grilled Pork Chops. Seafood includes Shrimp Scampi, Francese or Parm; beer-battered cod Fish & Chips; and Grilled or Blackened Salmon. “Poppies Favorites” include crispy Southern Fried Chicken or BBQ Baby Back Ribs with fries and slaw; Chicken “Scampi” in garlic-lemon butter over rice or pasta; Half Roast Chicken with Orange-Garlic Glaze; and much, much more.

You can drink just about anything here, from a New York egg cream to a beer, a glass of Chardonnay, a Dr. Brown’s or a Cappuccino. Dessert? For us, it’s a black & white, cheesecake, or seven-layer cake. (Plus: Pies, eclairs, cannoli, Linzer tarts and Tiramisu.) Poppies is open daily until 10 p.m., so if you’re no early bird, no worries!
