Café Maxx’s creative menu might offer a Lobster and Tasso (smoked, spiced Cajun pork shoulder) “Purse” of phyllo pastry set on a corn and sweet pepper nest with green tomatillo sauce, or Filet Mignon Carpaccio dusted with fresh herbs and parmesan, with olive oil and aioli drizzle. How about Crispy Ginger-Hoisin Beef Wontons with Asian slaw and mango chili sauce…
Locals in Pompano know daily change here is expected. Pastas might include Duck & Smoked Mozzarella Ravioli in Brown Butter with sundried tomatoes; or Jumbo Shrimp Scampi with Shaved Fennel & Pernod (a light anise liqueur) over Linguine. Fish and seafood entrees (most Gluten Free), may include Sweet Onion Crusted Snapper atop scallion mashed potatoes in rich Madeira Butter; Melted Tomato-Basil Roasted Florida Tripletail, a tropical, flavorful fish, with couscous salad and lemon-caper remoulade; or Sautéed Jumbo Sea Scallops over Roasted Mushroom Risotto, drizzled with truffle oil and leeks.
A Three-Peppercorn Crusted Filet Mignon with Au Gratin Potato was drizzled with shallot butter and red wine sauce when we dined, while Chef Saucy’s whimsical side produced a Deconstructed Mojo Grilled Pork Chop “Cuban Sandwich” – citrus-marinated chop with crispy plantains, black beans, rice, mustard crema and grilled Cuban bread. Dessert? Deep Dish Bourbon & Chocolate Pecan Pie, macadamia-coconut-cream cheese-iced Tropical Carrot Cake, or Salted Caramel Bread Pudding with crème anglaise proved we’ll never get bored here!
