Mention Luff’s Fish House here in the Boca-Boynton corridor and the common response is “Oh, I’ve always wanted to try it but…” or “never heard of it…” But there it is, an adorable 1920s Key West-style bungalow on Palmetto Park Rd. in Boca, another gem in chef Arturo Gismondi’s culinary empire.
Dinner on one of the cozy, covered gazebo patios at Luff’s takes you far from downtown Boca. The no-reservations eatery has a bit of nautical décor and feels like you’re on a friend’s front porch. The indoor dining room is tropical, retro-inspired. Choose from the purposefully small menu which ensures quality control and consistency. To start off, select from the raw bar – oysters, northern littlenecks and shrimp. Or try starters like rich Key West Pink Shrimp Gumbo; Tuna Nachos on crispy wonton shells with orange ginger dressing; sumptuous Crab-topped Guacamole; or Soft & Crispy Fish Taco with avocado. You’ll even find land-based offerings like BBQ Brisket Taco with white cheddar sauce.
Four salads are exceptional. The Fork & Knife Greek Salad is composed, not tossed, with Romaine hearts, cucumbers, tomatoes, red pepper, red onion, black olives and a giant wedge of feta cheese artfully arranged and dressed. A Classic Caesar laden with a mountain of shaved Parmigiano Reggiano is also wonderful. Daily specials include various chowders.
These not-so-small plates make a fine dinner with a breezy cocktail or local beer. Stay tuned for the download on great platters and entrees!
