At J. Alexander’s, a Nashville-based dining group with restaurants in 15 states, the menu has a Southern accent but is essentially all-American. The high-quality ingredients, well-balanced selection and attention to detail keep loyal customers coming back. Daily specials also entice and surprise; we headed there recently thinking ‘prime rib’ but the Cajun Ribeye special with loaded baked potato had us at “hello.”

Choose from more than 20 signature cocktails, mixed well in generous portion, or from about 40 wines by the glass, like an Austin Hope Paso Robles Cabernet, a Veuve Clicqót Yellow Label Champagne, or a Flowers Sonoma Pinot Noir.

Our initial introduction to J. Alexander’s was a platter of Fire-Grilled Artichokes served with remoulade (a mustard-caper mayonnaise) that our friends, longtime patrons, ordered. Wow! How delicious, and a great nibbler with drinks while awaiting entrees. Alternately, the Avocado Bomb is a real crowd pleaser, aptly named. Imagine a dome of beautifully spiraled avocado covering a center of hand-cut Hawaiian tuna, accompanied by wonton chips and drizzled with sriracha mayo and unagi sauce (sweetened soy sauce and rice wine). It is indeed “the bomb!”
