The menu at Mario’s Osteria is big and proprietary, no copycatting here. When ownership changed more than a dozen years ago, management decided not to change the menu because it features so many popular “signature” dishes. The menu is a mash-up of all the Bronx-Brooklyn-Jersey Italian joints that fed us well for many years.
A quarter of the menu is pizza, about a dozen signature pies plus a create-your-own, from 10 cheeses, a dozen proteins, three sauces, and 16 veggies. An gluten-free patrons can enjoy pizza and pasta without fear.
Order a nice Italian wine, a Peroni or a Negroni and check out Appetizers such as Sicilian White Anchovies served with Taggiasco olives, celery leaves, Calabria peppers and crostini (we love the devotion to tradition!); Eggplant Pancakes, a signature dish, stacked with feta, Asiago and fresh mozz, drizzled with San Marzano style Asiago-tomato “syrup”; Meatballs with Fried Peppers and a scoop of old-fashioned ricotta on request; [Gluten-Free] Garlic Toast Points baked with house-made garlic-olive oil glaze; Shrimp Scampi Bruschetta, jumbos in scampi sauce with sweet peas and grilled bread; Calamari 3 Ways, a choice of Fra Diavolo, fried crispy, tossed with spicy peppers and San Marzano tomato sauce/Crispy Fried with fresh lemons and marinara sauce/or Simply Grilled with lemon, parsley and EVOO (extra-virgin olive oil). That’s not even a third of all the appetizers!!
