True confession: Baked goods are my kryptonite.
So when I heard from Southern Belle’s Cakery about stopping in to learn the story behind — and more importantly, taste — their trademarked Sissy Cake, I was all in.
As a newbie to the area, I was not familiar with the bakery but that serendipitously changed when a day before our scheduled chat, I was a helper bee at my cousin’s daughter’s high tea 18th birthday party.
As the birthday girl’s mother Natalie, an amazing home cook and baker in her own right, cut the tall wedges, I asked where she scored this gorgeous gateau (that’s French for cake).
She said Southern Belle’s.
“I am a cake snob. Southern Belle’s came close to my cake making, but she blew me away with her designs, use of color and real flowers. She’s a keeper.”
She is Jamie Fago, the creative genius behind the cakes who owns this ultra cute jewel box of a bakery with her husband Joey.
